🇲🇽 Mexico Passport Photo Requirements (2026 Guide)
Photo Dimensions
Mexican passport photos must be 35 mm wide x 45 mm tall (1.38 x 1.77 inches). For digital submissions through the SRE (Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores), photos should be 413 x 531 pixels at 300 DPI in JPEG format.
Background Requirements
The background must be pure white. Mexico is strict about background color — any tint, shadow, or variation will lead to rejection. The background must be completely uniform.
Face and Expression
A neutral expression with mouth closed is required. Both eyes must be open and looking directly at the camera. The face must be fully visible, centred in the frame, with the head taking up approximately 70-80% of the photo height.
Glasses
Glasses are not allowed in Mexican passport photos. This rule was introduced to improve biometric scanning accuracy. All types of eyewear must be removed, including prescription glasses and sunglasses.
Head Coverings
Head coverings are not allowed unless worn for religious reasons. If a religious head covering is worn, the full face must remain visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead.

Common Mistakes
- Wearing glasses: Mexico strictly prohibits all eyewear in passport photos. Remove them before shooting.
- Using US 2x2 inch format: US passport photos are square. Mexican passports require the 35x45mm rectangular format.
- Shadows on background: Even slight shadows will be rejected. Use even, front-facing lighting.
